Today’s post is about kinesiology tape, specifically a wonderful brand of kinesiology tape called RockTape. RockTape is a specially designed body tape which when applied appropriately can provide support to certain areas of the body and help relieve pain. You may remember first seeing kinesiology tape during the summer Olympics when some of the beach volleyball players started sporting brightly colored tape all over their shoulders and knees.
According to RockTape, this kinesiology tape can be used for the following:
- Achilles tendonitis
- Plantar fasciitis
- Jumpers knee (PFS)
- ACL/MCL issues
- Rotator cuff
- Groin and hamstring pulls
- Lower back issues
- Shin splints
- Tennis and golf elbow
- Pain associated with pregnancy
- Postural correction
Outside of these body ailments, RockTape is also wonderful for taping hands and wrists during CrossFit WODs as it does NOT move or shift around, especially after multiple lifts.
When you look at the sticky side of RockTape, you will see a specific weave pattern which helps provide support in one direction, allowing the skin to separate from the soft tissue below and releasing blood into the muscle, helping with recovery and circulation.
RockTape was designed by endurance athletes and therefore has been tested in extreme conditions. Other brands of kinesiology tape claim to stay on in the water, but tend to live up to their claims. RockTape stays put and will support you the whole day.
Emily, at Sweat Once A Day, blogged about using RockTape after she was having trouble with injuries during her running. She was skeptical prior to using it but once she applied it herself, she was sold. Here is an excerpt from her blog post which is very helpful and humorous!
“Truthfully, when I got the tape in the mail, I threw it on a shelf and forgot about it for months. I’m a total tape skeptic and was not in a rush to sample something I didn’t think I needed. I’m not injured and I’ve never understood how layering a bunch of adhesive on your skin is going to help your running.
But a RockTape fairy convinced me that its designed to promote recovery and improve performance, not just to help runners treat injuries. Basically, it’s like a compression sleeve for your calf (or body part of choice), with the added bonus that you don’t have to wash it after you wear it.” Click here to read the rest of Emily’s post.
RockTape’s website has a host of helpful videos to learn about different taping techniques and also provides certified tapers in your area. Check out their resources here.
Next time you’re fighting a nagging injury or are having trouble with circulation, look to RockTape to help you perform and feel better.
