What is Nuun and How Do I Use It?

What is Nuun?

Nuun, pronounced noon, is an electrolyte replacement tablet that flavors water without sugar and very little calories (5 to be exact). Nuun tablets come with a pre-scored line down the center so they easily break into two pieces, allowing you to use only half if you want or need to fit the pieces into a small water bottle opening.

There are 13 delicious Nuun Active Hydration Flavors available currently, three of which contain caffeine for when you need that extra kick (Lemon Tea, Cherry Limeade, and Kona Cola).

Each tablet contains the following amount of electrolytes: 360 mg Sodium / 100 mg Potassium / 25 mg Magnesium / 13 mg Calcium. Nuun does not use artificial sweeteners or coloring and contains no artificial preservatives.

A tube of Nuun Active Hydration contains 12 tablets which means you can get between 12-24 uses per bottle. Another great feature of Nuun is the fact that you can be more green by using a canister or water bottle instead of plastic.

How Do I Use Nuun?

Nuun is great for drinking throughout the day, especially if you get tired of drinking just plain water or are trying to kick a soda habit. These electrolyte tablets are also good for use before, during and after workouts.

Staying hydrated is essential for good, physical performance as well as mental alertness and metabolism. During physical exertion, a good way to see how much fluid you are loosing is to weigh yourself both before and after your workout. For every 1 lb. loss, you have loss approximately 16 oz of fluid. Of course, the weather can be a big determiner of how much fluid your body loses.

So a simple way to think of your hydration needs is for every 1 hour of activity you need approximately 16 oz of fluid preferably one with electrolytes in it since you are sweating those out during your activity.

Nuun LogoWhat Are Electrolytes and Why Are They Important?

Electrolytes are electrically charged particles that aid the body in functioning properly. These ingredients can become imbalanced when we workout for more than an hour, become sick with vomiting or diarrhea or did not get a nutritious meal.

Sodium plays an important role in the body because it is critical for allowing the body and its organs to communicate properly through the use of electrical signals.

Potassium helps to regulate the heart and provides function in muscles.

Chloride stabilizes body fluids by conducting electrical pulses across the body.

Calcium plays several roles: strengthening of teeth and bones, regulating the heart’s function, transmission of nervous system messages and much more.

Magnesium aids in the functions of the body similar to the roles of sodium and potassium as all three are macro-nutrients.

Is It Safe For Kids?

Yes! In fact, doctors discourage giving kids traditional “sports drinks” as they contain so much sugar and unnecessary ingredients and food coloring. Nuun on the other hand is sugar-free and there fore is fine for kids especially when they are battling the stomach bug.
